This is utterly brilliant Stewart I’m not sure my aging grey cells could begin to be able to say any of this out loud like you can Well most of the time anyway because I love your out takes lol I kinda just know what works but pairing things with a flash stretching me at the moment But I’m determined to get there :) Thank you I might well have to watch this video several times over….

I’ve only just found you Stewart so making my way through your backlog of videos I enjoyed your rant :) Good question on last nights OM systems live too :) I’ve been enjoying macro photography with Nikon for many years but only recently with OM1 and a flash which I’m trying to get to grips with so finding all your videos really helpful So thank you and keep doing what you do best :)

Stewart, if I were to use Auto Focus for macro, then and only then would Focus Limiters come into play? IOW, those Focus Limiters have no use in Manual Focus, yes? My lens has only "Full" and "Limit" switches, with no distances marked - which position should I use if I were to use Auto Focus for macro? Many bushels of thanks in advance!

When I tried to render my photos in Helicon, it seemed that it rendered every 3rd / 4th picture? Something like that. In your video it goes one by one. In my case it looked like Helicon is skipping. And yes, I have them numbered correctly. Weird. Dont know what is going on.

I do not agree with the statement that you buy a camera for 3000, lens for 1500 etc, so the diffuser’s price of 200 is perfectly fine. its NOT. Lens is full of super accurate lenses with coatings / electronics. Camera the same. But the diffuser is just a cut out of 2-3 parts from a CHEAP VINYL or similar plastic! You cant compare a camera / lenses to a diffuser!

Super video and great shots Stewart, really interested in how you focus stack with the Canon R, as I have this camera and finding quite hard to do, especially it dosent have an auto focus stack mode. Regards Digby

Have you tried doing water droplets on both sides of the glass? I realise they wouldn’t be likely to line up but could lead to some cool effects.

I'm torn between an Olympus and a fuji, bot have focus bracketing that my dslr doesnt have, plus half the weight. Id lean to the 4:3, but then again why not the A7cR?

I got one of these lenses many years ago, and I also love it. It takes some patience to get good photos, I got a very closeup of a mosquito eye. I have been busy with other things for a while now, but i have got my macro stuff back out and plan on taking some more macro photos. I like how you did your light diffuser here !! great idea.

Got a question about peaking on the om-d e-m1 mark ii. Is there a way to have the peaking on constantly instead of turning the focus ring .

This is very interesting and quite timely, because I've been told by foks on a Canon forum, that you can't use flash with in-camera focus bracketing/stacking, auto-focus, yet you are doing it. I've the Canon R10. Is this ONLY becaase you're using a different brand?

I have been testing my new Adaptalux macro lights the last few days and I am a big fan! The new control module works well by itself or via Bluetooth. With the diffusers (the lower value diffusers) I rarely go over 50% power. It does have a small learning curve but once you get it, they are great! I normally use 3 lights, one on each side of the bug and one above. I take a test shot and if I have an specular hightlights ( hot spots) I just turn that light down 10% until it goes away. What is REALLY nice from a sharpness perspective is that f7 at a relatively slow shudder speed and low ISO gives me virtually NO noise shots. I figure I can always increase exposure in post where I need it! They are by FAR the best lighting solution I have used for my indoors/macro lab setup. But they really are not much more expensive that a few flashers or some LED lights which can be hard to position. The bendy arms really make a difference and the lights can be adjusted for a wide beam or tight circle. I’m very pleased with the setup!

How would you rate these for a basic macro video setup? I'm looking for an option instead of lugging two cameras around (my EM1 - MK3 for close-up and stacks, and Canon M6MK2 for video).

I find holding an iPhone far easier for macro videography, lighter and easier to get into hard to reach places. The screen and the lens are closer to the subject.
